Supply challenges – how insurers are responding

The motor repair industry, like many others, is encountering supply issues, delays and service disruption as a result of challenges related to Covid-19 and Brexit, including staff shortages.
We’re letting you know how these challenges are impacting motor insurers, and what they doing to manage the situation for our customers.
Repair Challenges
The industry has seen a shortage of semi-conductors over the past 12-18 months, which has impacted the production of new vehicles and parts for repairs. This is also expected to continue well into 2022.  In addition, the repair industry has seen a general decline in availability of parts in recent months. This is due to reduced UK stockholding, the need to order from overseas, and logistics delays including driver shortages. This can lead to backlogs of several weeks in some cases. Social distancing measures and the impact of Covid-19 isolation rules have impacted staff resource, leading to further backlog.
The above issues are impacting the whole industry. However insurers are working closely with their Approved Repair Network to mitigate these delays and find solutions where possible.
